Great success for Bakery Band
Posted: 20th March 2008

The Roberts Bakery Brass Band recently competed at the North West Regional Championships in Blackpool and triumphed to secure themselves a place in the national finals which are to be held in September in Harrogate. The band played incredibly well finishing two points ahead of the competition beating Blackburn and Darwin. The test piece of music played by all the bands was James Cook Circumnavigator by Gilbert Vinter. A Special mention needs to go to the Band’s musical director Colin Cranson, whose brilliant leadership won him the trophy for the best conductor.

Gingerbread colouring competition results
Posted: 20th December 2007

Two lucky winners of the gingerbread colouring competition were chosen last week after hours of deliberation and sifting through all the fantastic entries. 5’s and under winner was 3 year old Charlotte Tims from Bexton Nursery and the 6 to 11 category was won by 7 year old Alex Mollard of Wincham Primary school.
5’s and under runners up were Daniel Barnes of Lostock Primary and Hannah Deakin of Rudheath Primary.
6-11 Runners up were Anastarsia Parks and Erin McKenna both of St. Wilfred’s Primary.

The judging proved incredibly difficult with some really imaginative and detailed entries, a team of judges worked through them till we had the final 6 and everyone agreed they looked amazing when they were decorated. A big thank you to everyone who entered.

Gingerbread men take on the Terracotta Army
Posted: 3rd October 2007

An army of gingerbread soldiers has been created as an edible rival to China's famous Terracotta Army.

The hundreds of edible soldiers claim to be a painstaking miniature re-creation of 2000-year-old treasures. The men, depicted in full battle dress, will go on display to visitors at the three-day Nantwich Food and Drink Festival, which opens on Friday.

Kellie Burgess, of The Pastry Case bakery, said: "They are only three inches tall so it took staff hours to be able to paint each of the figures individually with terracotta coloured icing. "It required a lot of patience but we are delighted with the results."

Thousands of people have already seen the Terracotta exhibition at the British Museum in London. It features a selection of the life-sized soldier figures made to guard the tomb of China's first emperor. The warriors were discovered by chance in 1974 by men digging a well. They discovered the army of men and horses guarding the tomb of the Emperor Qin Shihuangdi, which was found to be the size of Cambridge.
